Things I’ve Been Sewing Lately: Velvet Turban

February 1, 2012

Ever since I got my sewing machine for Christmas I have spent almost every weekend sewing – as well as spending a lot of money at the fabric store. I have made mostly small things so far, like bags and pillows, and attempted a few pieces of clothing (including a pair of ruffled shorts which were a bit of a disaster), but I have only really used cotton.

When I saw the DIY for a velvet turban over at A Beautiful Mess I couldn’t wait to get started. I really love the look and feel of velvet and this was a great project to get me started with the fabric.

The DIY was really informative, explaining the best ways to work with stretchy fabrics and before I knew it the turban was done – in less than an hour and a half might I add. I have worn it almost every day since and I have gotten so many compliments – after which I really love saying “I made it!”. Sewing is just the greatest!
